Appellation: PDO LIRAC
Grape Varieties: 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 5% Carignan, 5% Mourvèdre.
Terroir: This emblematic wine from Chateau de Montfaucon comes from old vines planted across the diverse terroirs of Lirac, located on the right bank of the Rhone River, directly opposite Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyards are rooted in a mosaic of soils including rolled pebbles, limestone, red sandstone and sand, combining concentration, freshness, structure and aromatic finesse.
Yield: 25 hl / ha
Alcohol: 14.0%
Winemaking: Fermentation typically takes place in concrete vats, a method widely used at Château de Montfaucon to allow for gentle extraction and thermal stability. The wine undergoes a relatively long maceration, enabling a progressive extraction of color, tannins and aromatic compounds, resulting in the wine’s characteristic depth and silky texture.
Aging: The wine is aged for 12 months in seasoned old casks and neutral barrels. This elevage is designed to preserve the aromatic purity of the Grenache while gently refining the tannic structure and adding layers of spice and complexity.
Notes: A lot of iron-edged mineral notes underline the flavors of dried rose, brambly red fruit, dusty earth and toasted alder in this beautiful red. Tobacco lea
f and mocha chime in, while menthol and black pepper add freshness. Full in body, with fine-grained tannins stitching everything together. Shows good harmony now and impressive definition. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan and Mourvèdre. - Wine Spectator 92 points
